Look at this cupcake and just try to resist.

I’ve been to a million weddings, tasting every variety of cake. Some taste like Safeway sheet cakes, while some taste like one part cardboard, one part Crisco. Then there’s the piece de resistance: the work of art, a study in sugar doves, spun glace flowers, marzipan cupids, complicated colored fondant, and crazy flavor combinations (Cocoa and cayenne! Basil and cinnamon! Olive oil and vanilla!). It is at these times, that I just want a cupcake and a glass of Verve, is that too much to ask? A big fat, old fashioned cupcake, (my preference, coconut, the perfect companion to champagne), with a simple moist texture, and a rich, glossy, buttercream frosting, 1 inch in depth sprinkled with tender coconut flakes.

The case for Susie Cakes: They are better than bake sale cupcakes, kind of like your mom used to make (if she didn’t skimp on the frosting like mine did) and retro in nature. Nothing on top, no decoration, not even a cherry. Just luscious frosting and plenty of it.
