Alice in Wonderland in Chains

Enter the site, Madeherthink.com, and you feel like you are entering a dark and fantastical dream world poised somewhere in between a David Lynch film and a Victorian daguerreotype. Meredith creates small films for her site to define and describe her new collections which are also stand alone works of art. She is the quintessential ironic, and iconic jewelry designer who makes her creations by hand, but that’s not why she had us at ‘hello.’ Her punk-glam creations are a little bit bridal and a little bit rock and roll: neon frayed silk, rhinestones, beaded applique and faceted Swarovski crystals are pretty in a sweet-meets-tough design vernacular.

Some of her creations look like what would happen if Poly Styrene  and Princess Grace got together and designed a jewelry collection (with a shot of high priestess Vivienne Westwood circa 1977,  Seditionaries-era).

Blessedly, she’s moved beyond the Queen Baby LA obsession with skulls, bows and goth and moved into a darker, more sublime territory  with her semi-precious jewelry collection on the Meredith Kahn website. We love everything about this former Old Navy clothing designer, especially her ability to temper the tender with the tough, and render it in such a way that a woman of any age can wear it. Design-wise, her work does not reside in the domain of 20 year-olds and club kids. We believe that although Meredith may or may not have intended for her current collection to read: BRIDAL, we think for the right Anti-Bride out there, that is certainly does. I would rock this down my runway on W-day (or any day really). A lot of women would. Keep up the good work Meredith, we’ve got our eye on you!
